   A member of the ginger family, turmeric is sold ground into a bright yellow-orange powder and is used to flavor curries as well as vegetable, egg, and fish dishes. Turmeric is a significant ingredient in curry powder and prepared mustard, and is also used in pickling. It gives food a pleasantly bitter, mild flavor.
